OBJ/01

Interoperability of IoT platforms for rapid cross-platform application development: To design and develop an interoperability framework for seamless interworking of heterogeneous IoT platforms (both closed industrial and open-source solutions) hosting both legacy and next generation of smart objects with the aim to enable simplified cross-platform development of end-user IoT applications. The symbIoTe framework will create secure federations of IoT platforms.

OBJ/02

Hierarchical, adaptive and dynamic IoT environments: To organise IoT resources in a hierarchical manner with smart spaces interacting with IoT platform back-end running in the cloud environment. Smart spaces will support dynamic discovery and reconfiguration of smart objects, sharing of bounded local resources (processing power, storage and wireless communication channels), and will enable migration of smart objects across domains in an “eduroam-like” manner. symbIoTe will seamlessly accept and integrate smart objects in visited IoT domains in accordance with Service Level Agreement (SLA)s between its home and visited IoT domain while the visiting object will adapt its behaviour to the new environment.

OBJ/03

Security, access scopes and identity management: To design & develop mechanisms assuring secure IoT platform interworking assuming cloud-based, adaptive and dynamic IoT environments; To o ffer resource access schemes based on security scopes; To devise an identity management solution for IoT resources which integrates security features and avoids potential attacks.

OBJ/04

Realistic cross-platform deployments: To design, implement and deploy realistic use case applications and perform trials with end-users following the living lab process to IoT application design, exploration, experimentation and evaluation.

OBJ/05

Open source and commercialisation: To publish symbIoTe APIs and middleware components as open source by using “business-friendly” licensing, which facilitates open software and triggers the commercial and innovative di usion on top of the symbIoTe interoperability framework. In addition symbIoTe will be aligned with and influence standardisation eff orts of standardisation bodies such as W3C and oneM2M.
